A file type group stores mappings between a MIME type (equivalent to a file format) and the file type and file type configuration to use for that MIME type. You typically assign file type groups to project types or AIS target folders.
Without changing the default configuration of your file types, you can use file type groups to do the following:
- Configure multiple file types for a single MIME type. Because some file formats—such as XML and text files—are used to store many different types of information, these file formats require different file types, rather than just different file type configurations. You can use a separate file type group for each set of content of a given MIME type that requires a non-default file type.
- Assign multiple file type configurations to a single project type or AIS property value. You can assign multiple file type configurations and custom file types to the folder containing all the target documents for a particular customer. Thus, you avoid making individual file type assignments in multiple places throughout the AIS structure.
