Extending your custom bilingual Excel settings

If you are regularly working with bilingual Excel files, consider saving the custom setting that you make to a project's Bilingual Excel file type. Saving your settings enables you to reapply them to any new projects that you create in SDL Trados Studio.

Extending settings to all future projects

To change the default settings that Studio uses for processing bilingual Excel files:

  1. Go to File > Options > File Types.
  2. Activate the Bilingual Excel file type by moving it before the generic Microsoft Excel 2007-2013 file type.
  3. Configure your custom settings on the Common page of the Bilingual Excel file.
  4. Click OK to close the Options dialog box and save your settings. Studio applies your new default settings to all the new projects that you create.

Extending settings to specific future projects

Create a project template dedicated to processing bilingual Excel documents. Project templates enable Studio to automatically use the Bilingual Excel file type and your custom settings only for projects that contain Excel files with bilingual content.

To create a new project template based on the settings for the current project:

  1. Go to Projects view > Project Settings > File Types.
  2. Activate the Bilingual Excel file type by moving it before the generic Microsoft Excel 2007-2013 file type.
  3. Configure your custom settings on the Common page of the Bilingual Excel file.
  4. Click OK to close the Project Settings dialog box and apply your changes to the active project.
  5. Click Projects view > Create Project Template.
  6. Give a name to your new template, for example Template for bilingual Excel files.
  7. Click Save. Studio displays the Project Template Settings dialog box where you can make further changes to your project.
  8. Click OK to close this Project Template Settings dialog box. You can now select this template when you create a new project from the New Project wizard > Project Type page > Create project based on a project template. You can also edit this template at any time by going to File > Setup > Project Templates > Edit.
