TMX Import - Steps 1 and 2

You can load an external translation memory (TM) by importing a TMX file from Tools > Translation Memories.

  1. In Tools > Translation Memories, select the translation memory into which to import the matches from the TMX file.
Tip: If you want to import TMX into a new translation memory, you need to set up a new translation memory first from Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > Translation Memory Setup .
  2. Click Import TM from TMX File.
  3. In the Import dialog box, click Browse and select the TMX file to import. Click Next.
  4. In the Step 2 of 2 dialog box, specify the appropriate language codes and whether you want the import to occur as a background process.
Note: If the TMX file you are importing contains multiple language combinations (for example, "en-us" to "es" and "en-us" to "de"), the combinations are displayed, along with check boxes you can use to skip the import of the checked combination.
  5. Click Import.
The importer displays an Import Job ID, which can be used to roll back the import, if needed.

To reduce the processing times required to import a TMX file, WorldServer drops the shingles tables indexes at the beginning of a TMX file import and recreates them when the import is complete. Any leverage activity against that TM will be slower during the import.

When you perform an import from a TMX file, WorldServer processes all TM matches in the file, and the dialog reports that number. This number may not be the same as the number of entries reported on the individual TM page after the import. Reasons for this difference could include the following:

    • You did not choose to import matches for all languages.
    • You previously imported this file, and WorldServer only re-imports changed or new matches to the TM.
  6. When the import is complete, click OK.
  7. Refresh the page.
