Text (Regular Expression Delimited Text) Settings

The file type Text is used for text files (.txt files) that are structured by patterns of embedded text. These patterns of text are specified in the form of regular expressions. For text files divided into columns, see the Character Delimited Text file type.

Document structure page

Available options are:

Document structure
In a Regular Expression Delimited text file, the Document Structure settings provide regular expressions that define the structure of the file.
Opening pattern
Enter a pattern that identifies the start of translatable text.
Closing pattern
Enter a pattern that identifies the end of translatable text.
Multiline
Select this if the text pattern can cover multiple lines.

Inline tags page

Available options are:

Inline tags
The rules that specify the text that the software will convert to inline tags.
To provide opening and closing patterns of text
In Rule type, select Tag pair.

To lock the text within the tag pair, choose the Translate property Not translatable.

To display warning on improperly paired tags, check Notification in Other settings

To provide just one pattern for text to be extracted (for example an email address)
In Rule type select Placeholder. Under Advanced Settings, choose properties of the standalone tag.

Common page

Available options are:

Line breaks
This setting only has an effect if you also specify a multi-line pattern for translatable text with the Text file type Document structure settings. Replace Line Breaks with inline tag has the same effect on the translated file as Keep Line breaks. The difference between the two is how line breaks are displayed in an editor.
Notification
You can choose to display warning messages if tags are not properly paired. This setting only has an effect if you also define tag pairs in the Text (Regular Expression Delimited Text) file type, Document structure settings.
Unicode UTF-8 Byte Order Mark
You can choose when the SDL file support software should insert a UTF-8 Byte Order Mark (BOM) in the target document.
