Project Creation from File Upload

You can upload files and create a project for them via the Create New Project button on the Assignments > Projects page or via a Useful Link, Upload Files and Create Project, on the WorldServer Home page. Unlike the way you create projects from Explorer > Project > Create Project, the files do not need to already be located in the appropriate AIS directory, and the AIS folders (for all locales) and properties do not need to have been configured ahead of time.

When the project is created, the selected Project Type is used to automatically create a set of AIS source and target locale folders for the project, and provides a basis for applying a workgroup, workflow, file type configuration, cost model, TM, TD, custom AIS properties and so on for the new folders. The project folder that is created is located off the client folder defined for the Client with which the Project Type is associated, and is automatically named <project #>_<project name>.

You must be a member of a Client and that Client must have one or more Project Types associated with it.

If you try to use Upload Files and Create Project, but you are (1) not one of the members of a Client, or (2) you are a member of a Client, but that Client does not have a Project Type associated with it, you get the following message: Error: In order to create upload-based projects, you must be a member of at least one Client that has at least one associated Project Type.

If you have only one Client defined, that Client will be used and you do not see a client selection list.

General Project Information
To use the Upload Files and Create Project page to upload files and create a project, first enter general project information:
  • Project Name – This name appears in the Project list to identify the project.
  • Description – (Optional) This description can also appear in the Project list to help identify the project.
  • Client – The Client for whom this project will manage file exchange and quotes. If you are a member of only one Client, this option does not appear.
  • Quote – If there are approved quotes for this Client, you can select one of them for use in the project. Note that the listed quotes are based on a manual or workflow-based approval process.
  • Project Type – The Project Type you select is used to automatically create a set of AIS locale folders for the project, and provides a basis for applying a set of AIS properties, default workflows, and business rule linkages for the new folders. If there is only one project type associated with the selected Client, that project type must be used. If there are multiple project types for the Client, be sure to select the one whose AIS properties you want applied for this translation project.
Due Date and Time and Locales
  • Due Date and Time – You can optionally specify a due date and time for the entire project group to be completed, or you can select the Set due date and time per locale check box, which lets you set the due date and time for each locale in the calendar next to the locale in the Selected Locales area.
  • Translate to – The locales associated with the project type you have specified appear for you to select and move from the Available Locales to the Selected Locales area.
Files to Translate

In the Select files to translate section, you browse to a directory or WorldServer location to include files that you want translated.

If any of the files you are translating are in a ZIP file, you can select the Expand zipped files check box, and when you Add the ZIP file, the files in the ZIP are included as individual files.

You can get cost information for the translation project at this point by clicking the Get Scoping and Estimates link. WorldServer calculates the word count for the asset or assets.
