Generally, a client represents a group of users who require translation services. For example, a client can comprise an entire organization or a department within an organization. Depending on permissions, client users can see the quotes and projects created by members of their group.
A client can be:
- External—A group of users responsible for hiring a language service provider (LSP) that manages translation projects and hosts WorldServer.
- Internal—A documentation, marketing, or business department within an organization responsible for translating content.
The Client object, in combination with the Project Type object, is used for organizing your users and projects. The WorldServer administrator sets up clients and associates them with project types. Once this is done, client users can create projects simply by using the
Create New Project feature in TransPort. Conversely, you can create projects for them using the
Upload Files and Create Project feature from the
. (The
Upload Files and Create Project feature gathers source locale, workgroup, workflow, file type configuration, cost model, translation memory, terminology database, and other information from the project type associated with the client.)
A client has two types of member users: client users and client managers.
- Client users typically work for the client organization that requires translation services. For example, a client user, with the appropriate permissions, generally submits quotes and projects, and responds to action-based requests in TransPort.
- Client managers (there can be more than one) typically work for the organization providing the translation services. For example, a client manager does the following:
- Monitors all of the projects for clients in WorldServer.
- Responds to quote requests by supplying quotes, including quote documents in WorldServer.
- Creates and manages projects.
