What Can Logs Tell You

Management > Administration > System Logs

Logging records all actions that occur as part of WorldServer processes, such as exceptions, restarts, and dates and timestamps for certain actions.

WorldServer establishes one default log file, ws.log, but others can be added during the installation and configuration process. See the WorldServer Installation Guide for more information. WorldServer uses the standard Log4J logging package to manage the logging process.

A separate table on the System Logs page contains File Type Support (FTS) Server logs.

Logging can be used as part of troubleshooting processes to help track own when certain actions occur. You can change the log settings in general.properties such that only specific categories of messages will be logged in "debug" mode. This may make it easier to track down problems in some scenarios as the log fills up very quickly with "debug" on for everything. For example, you could set up the log to track only ClearCase actions.
