AIS Properties

Generally, the Admin user has full TM, TD, and AIS access control list (ACL) access to all properties of the Asset Interface System (AIS).

An AIS property is a property associated with an AIS path. The value of an AIS property can be explicitly assigned or it can be inherited from the parent AIS path.

Note: The Admin user may not have access to the WorldServer Explorer if the ACL for the AIS node does not allow read permission to any user including Admin. In that case, WorldServer displays a "You do not have read permission for this asset" message when you click on the AIS node in Explorer. To resolve this issue, administrators can go to Management > Asset Interface System > View and Change Properties and reset the ACL.

Use the Change Properties dialog box to set and modify properties for folders and assets (Management > Asset Interface System > View and Change Properties or Explorer > Assets > Properties). The available properties are listed below.

Note: Create custom AIS properties in Management > Administration > Customization. See the About Customization topic for more information.
Locale
Specify a locale for the top-level source and target folders.
Context URL
Specify the URL of the parent page to which this asset belongs. This is used for the viewer in context mode. See Context URL for more details.
Comments
Add comments, if needed.
Translation Memory
For the target folder only, specify a translation memory.
Term Database
For the target folder only, specify a terminology database.
File Type
Specify which file type to use (only available if there are multiple file type configurations for the appropriate file types). Alternatively, if you have selected a folder, you can specify a file type group.
  • For a file - If a file has a file type associated with it through the MIME type, and the file type has at least one custom configuration defined, the File Type property will be shown. Users can select the configuration of their choice and this configuration will be used to parse the file.
  • For a folder - If there is at least one custom configuration for any of the file types defined in WorldServer, then the File Type property will be available for folders. It will list all the configurations in the form of File Type Name: Config Name. If you have defined any file type groups associated with the MIME type and file type for this directory, you can select a file type group. If the value is a file type group, when WorldServer segments the asset, the file type group is searched for an entry that contains the MIME type of the source asset being filtered. If one is found, the file type and file type configuration in that entry are used. If not, the base file type and file type configuration for the MIME type are used.
Select the appropriate configuration, which will be inherited by all files in this folder. If a file type is compatible with the selected configuration, then the configuration will be used. Otherwise, the default configuration will be used.
For example, folder A contains files one.html and two.doc. The user sets HTML 4 File Type: My Config to the folder A. This configuration will be used to parse one.html, but will be ignored while parsing two.doc (which will be parsed using the default DOC file type configuration).
The file type configuration feature controls parsing rules for different files rather than for the same file across multiple locales. Because WorldServer caches parsing results and reuses them for all the locales, multiple configurations will not take effect in this case. If separate parsing rules for multiple locales are required, contact WorldServer support.
Entry Form
Specify which Entry Form to use for any assets under this path. Set up the Entry Form at Management > Administration > Customization.
Triggers
Specify which triggers to activate.
Editing
Specify which Click and Edit editor to use for the asset, either the Click and Edit 1.0 editor (more restrictive), or the WYSIWYG editor.
AIS Mask
Select an AIS Mask, if you have defined one, to control what objects can be used for this asset. The objects you can mask must be one of the following object type: AIS Properties, Publishing Objects, or Workflows.
Encoding
Choose whether to use the default encoding declared in the locale or whether to override the encoding locally.
Machine Translation Configuration (for target assets)
Select which Machine Translation configuration to use by default during lookups in the Browser Workbench, and for scoping. If no MT adapters have been configured, this AIS property does not display.
Access Control
Specify which users and groups have View, Read, Write, and Change permission to the folder. Note that Write permission assumes Read permission, and that Change permission assumes Read and Write permissions.
  • View allows you to see the object. For example, if you had a View permission on a TM object and you do not have View permission on the TM itself, the TM does not even appear in the list of TMs.
  • Read permission allows you to read object data. If you have View permission on a TM but do not have Read permission on it, you cannot click on the TM to get into the TM and read data. But the TM will show up in the list.
  • Write permission allows you to change the content of the object (for example, to modify TM entries).
  • Change permission allows you to modify object properties (for example, to rename a TM or change its description).
Custom AIS Properties
Any custom properties that you have defined in Management > Administration > Customization with AIS properties selected as the custom component type will be displayed on this page. For example, if you have created a Product property as a selector with values of Car, Truck, and Motorcycle, this page will display these selector values. Having the asset associated with a product (in this example) could be used programmatically when making scoring decisions during TM lookups. For example, a match of “hand brake” might be assigned a different weight if the product were Motorcycle than if it were Car or Truck.
For each property, a folder or asset has one of the following values:
  • No value
  • An inherited value (the default), which means that the folder or asset derives the value for that property from its hierarchical parent
  • An explicit value, which means the folder or asset has a different value than its hierarchical parent
