Placeholders

A placeholder is a visual representation of a piece of embeddable markup. Rather than exposing the actual markup to the translator, a placeholder is used to indicate the position of the markup within the segment. This ensures that translators cannot alter the content of the embeddable markup. Instead, translators are only allowed to position each placeholder in the target text in the correct location for the translation. WorldServer requires that all placeholders that are in the source text also appear in the target text.

Placeholders appear in segments that have translatable attributes. The translatable text appears as text in the segment, and the markup appears as bracketed numbers in the segment. Translate the text that appears in the segment, placing it in the appropriate place in relation to the placeholders. You can add, delete, and edit segment placeholders from within the Segmented Asset Editor. Click the Show Placeholders button (the bracket icon to the right of the segment).

Task Steps
To add a placeholder
  1. In the Edit Placeholders dialog box, click Add.
  2. Create the placeholder in the empty field that appears.
  3. Click OK.
To delete placeholders
  1. In the Edit Placeholders dialog box, click the checkbox of the placeholder to delete.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Click OK.
To edit placeholders
  1. In the Edit Placeholders dialog box, modify the placeholder.
  2. Click OK.
